joint pain magnets

electromagnetic fields and the toast?
The discussion should describe the sources of electromagnetic radiation, the effect of frequency on the biological systems, the suspicion of cancer to the proximity of power lines, the beneficial use of magnets for joint pain
http://www.csicop.org and http://www.skeptic.com are good starting points for the "power lines cause cancer" and "therapeutic magnets issues. Speaking as a physicist, however, if strong magnetic fields has had major effects on health, then physicists I know to avoid 'em would significantly different from other health physicists, and they do not. Therapeutic magnets are very clearly a placebo effect, more difficult to control for the fact that any person can find out whether magnets are real or not.
